Malta is a forward-thinking microstate steeped in tradition. It boasts a strong history of outreach and trade that saw it become a strategic stronghold under, to name a few, the Romans, the Arabs and Normans, before finally emerging as an Independent state. The lasting influence of its many foreign rulers has left Malta with a rich heritage, particularly the capital city of Valletta, which garnered UNESCO’s World Heritage status in 1980 and was named the European City of Culture in 2018.
